Michael Owen has been backed to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
Now that the shock surrounding Michael Owen's move to Manchester United has worn off, bookmakers are busy offering odds on how successful he will be with the champions.Despite his relatively poor scoring form over the past few seasons, some bookmakers are confident that he will return to his old self and regain his place in the England team.
Totesport, for example, are currently offering odds of 18/1 that Owen will score more than 20 league goals next season, while 13/2 says he will bag at least one hat-trick.
At the same time, the company is offering odds of 5/2 that his move to Manchester United will lead to a recall by England manager Fabio Capello.
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes has Owen as finishing as the top scorer for United and in the Premiership as 7/2 and 20/1 respectively, while it is also offering odds of 16/1 that the 29-year-old will play 31 games or more for his new side.
Owen has now started training with United, though he will have to wait for a few days to meet his new teammates as they are still on an extended break.
