The World Poker Tour poker tournament brand is up for sale, and the company have released some confidential information to several third parties interested in purchasing the name.
Several online gaming operators are reported as being interested in acquiring the world famous brand. World Poker Tour officials have confirmed that they have given those companies information about the brand and the TV series of showdowns. However they have not confirmed or denied if the sale will be taking place.
World Poker Tour CEO Steve Lipscomb said that documents have changed hands, but also made the confusing statement that the WPT brand is “Not for sale. But of course everything is for sale”.
The brand has struggled for a few years, thanks to the increasing amount of competition from the World Series of Poker and the growing number of online poker tournaments. The current value of the brand is just a fraction of its former $500 million, but it is still popular enough to make it a prime target for acquisition.
