Bingo firm set to remain UK-based

Online sports betting operators such as William Hill have recently announced plans to move offshore.

Gambling firm Gala Coral is not planning to relocate any part of its business offshore, chief executive Neil Goulden has said.

In an interview with bingohideout.co.uk, Mr Goulden said that Gala Coral will not be following the example of bookmakers such as William Hill and Ladbrokes, which recently announced that their online sports betting operations are set to move to Gibraltar.

He explained that the firm's online bingo business is already located in the Channel Islands, while land-based bingo remains Gala Coral's "core business".

"There would be no point to moving our operation abroad as only our sportsbook business is onshore and our e-gaming bingo business is already based in Aldernay," Mr Goulden told the bingo website.

However, he added: "As a European leader in the bingo industry, we are concerned about the continuing attack on the bingo industry by the UK government and the unreasonable taxation policies."

Mr Goulden also said that Gala Coral has no plans to shut down any more of its UK bingo venues "for the foreseeable future".

Gala Bingo clubs in Leven, Aldridge, Hull, Glasgow, Pitsea and Crystal Palace have closed this summer.
