Gala Bingo closes West Midlands club as other bingo venues shut down around the country.
A community of numbers game fans in the West Midlands have said goodbye to their popular bingo hall in Aldridge. The Gala Bingo venue closed its doors for the final time on Saturday (August 1st) as part of the firm's ongoing restructuring plan, with five other clubs recently shutting up shop around the country.
According to the Express & Star, the closure marked the "end of an era" for people in the Walsall area and many bingo players were sad to see it go.
Local woman Glenda Allinson told the newspaper: "I can't understand the closure when this club has been making a profit. There have been people coming here for years and years, and this is the main centre of entertainment in Aldridge."
However, manager Dan Shuttleworth offered a more upbeat perspective on the closure.
"There have been some good times here and that is what we want to remember," he said.
As well as the spate of Gala closures, Riva Bingo recently announced plans to shut its venues in Bristol and Aberdeen.
