Casino operators will be invited to submit bids for Hull licence

Hull is one of the eight locations around the UK chosen for a new large casino licence.

Any new casino development taking place in Hull will have to provide at least 125 new jobs for the city, the local authority has said.

Hull City Council has unveiled a comprehensive list of benefits that bidders will have to offer in order to secure the licence for a large casino.

As well as boosting employment, the new gambling venue must fit in with existing plans for city centre development and include additional facilities such as bars, restaurants and a conference area.

"Should the council be successful in selecting a casino operator it would be good news for the city, particularly during this time of recession," said councillor John Robinson, portfolio holder for image and culture.

"The potential construction and subsequent opening of the casino would create a large number of job opportunities for people and we would encourage the successful applicant to use local people where possible," he added.

Hull is one of eight UK locations to have been awarded a large casino licence by the government. The council is expected to invite expressions of interest from prospective casino operators from December.

Existing gaming venues in the city include Napoleons Casino, which offers blackjack, roulette, three-card poker and a selection of slot machines.
