Staff and customers prepare for closure of long-standing bingo club near Blackpool.
A bingo hall in Cleveleys near Blackpool has announced its impending closure due to falling attendance levels.Orion Bingo opened in the late 1960s in a former cinema building and retains a loyal group of numbers game fans, but its owners are no longer making a profit and have decided to shut up shop, the Blackpool Gazette reports.
General manager of the club Roxburgh Richmond said that both regular customers and staff members will be saddened by the closure, which will leave 30 people unemployed.
"We have been told it's no longer making enough money and is due to close in four to seven weeks' time, either at the end of August or the middle of September," he told the newspaper.
"Everyone is obviously very upset at the prospect of losing their jobs. It will also be very sad for our customers. A big part of bingo is the social side."
A bingo hall in nearby Fleetwood closed in April and several other numbers game venues in the Blackpool area have admitted to struggling in the current economic climate.
Gala Bingo has shut five of its venues around the country this summer, while two Riva Bingo clubs also closed recently.
