Bookmaker reveals new specials market on Owen's racing and football performance.
One bookmaker is offering special bets on the level of Michael Owen's success on both the football pitch and the race track this season. As the new Manchester United striker is a keen racehorse owner and now runs his own stables in Cheshire, William Hill has priced up a market on whether or not Owen will perform better than his horses.
The sports betting firm makes the 29-year-old 4/7 to score more goals than he has winners at the races during the 2009-10 Premier League season, while odds of 7/4 are available on his race winners outnumbering his goals.
"Owen has always been a thoroughbred as a footballer and he'll be fancied to score if he makes his United Premier League debut against Birmingham in the opening match, but he'll also be keen to get his new racing venture off to a winning start," said William Hill spokesperson Graham Sharpe.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker is currently 10/1 at Paddy Power to finish as the Premier League's top goalscorer in the new campaign, with Liverpool's Fernando Torres the current favourite at 11/4.
