The Spanish city is set to welcome poker pros from around the world for the EPT event.
Poker players from around the world are descending on Barcelona for the second leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT) this week.Running from Friday until next Wednesday (September 4th to 7th), the event takes place at the Gran Casino and is expected to bring a number of big-name poker players to the Catalonian city.
With last year's EPT Barcelona generating a 5 million (£4.3 million) prize pool thanks to a record field of 619 players, the organisers are hoping that the 2009 event will be just as memorable.
Players confirmed for the 8,000 buy-in main event include reigning World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Peter Eastgate, Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu, last year's EPT Barcelona winner Sebastian Ruthenberg and Luca Pagano, the current EPT Player of the Year.
Tennis star-turned-poker pro Boris Becker is also set to take part, alongside players such as Ivan Demidov, Vanessa Rousso and Johnny Lodden.
Ruthenberg's triumph in Barcelona last year followed a third-place finish at EPT Dortmund in 2007. The German also won a WSOP bracelet in 2008 by taking down the $5,000 seven-card stud hi-lo world championship event.
