Gala Bingo has now shut nine of its UK numbers game venues this year.
Bingo fans in the West Midlands have been left disappointed by Gala Bingo's decision to close its venue in Dudley. The club was shut down after a month-long consultation with staff members and is the ninth Gala outlet to close in the UK this year, the Daily Mail reports.
Last year, Gala Coral chairman Neil Goulden said the firm had no plans to reduce its number of bingo halls any further, but the impact of the recession and several regulatory changes have forced it to reconsider its approach.
Across the industry, 24 clubs have stopped doing business this year, leaving many bingo fans around the country facing long journeys to their nearest numbers game venue.
According to the newspaper, Gala's situation is complicated by the fact that the company currently has debts totalling £2.7 billion and its lenders recently enlisted financial adviser Rothschild to go over their options.
Located near Dudley Zoo in the Castle Hill area, the latest Gala venue to close started life as a popular theatre before being converted into a bingo hall.
