Developer claims that floating casino would create new jobs and attract more visitors.
The north-west businessman hoping to open a floating casino in Barrow has claimed that the early reaction to his plans among local people has been positive.Rick Lucas intends to convert part of his Princess Selandia pleasure ship into a new gambling venue for the Cumbria town, with live gaming tables offering roulette, blackjack and baccarat.
According to the North-West Evening Mail, Mr Lucas said that his plan has been welcomed by people in Barrow, as many residents feel a casino would make the town more attractive to visitors.
"It can only make Barrow a better place to come to in a roundabout way. The feedback I have had from people has been pretty good," he told the newspaper.
Unveiling his floating casino plan last week, Mr Lucas said that he hopes to entice holidaymakers from the Lake District and "bring a little bit of cash back into the town".
He also revealed that negotiations with a major gambling operator over the running of the facility are already underway.
The Princess Selandia is currently moored on Barrow's Town Quay and employs about 60 people.
