Casino project still up in the air for Isle of Man developer

Hotel owner wants to add 31,000 sq ft casino venue to the Mount Murray site.

Developers are still waiting for a planning decision on their proposal to build a new casino venue on the Isle of Man.

Albert Gubay, group chairman of the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club in Santon, wants to construct a £45.6 million casino and 'aparthotel' complex close to the existing resort.

According to iomtoday.co.im, Mr Gubay has claimed that the development will create 150 construction jobs and 50 permanent positions once the gambling venue is completed.

The application currently being considered was submitted in March following several changes to the original plans, with the location of the casino being moved away from the pro shop for the Mount Murray golf course.

Set in 200 acres of the Isle of Man countryside, Mount Murray already features a four-star hotel with 90 bedrooms, an 18-hole championship golf course and a health and fitness centre.

The new development would add a 31,000 sq ft casino to the resort, as well as 150 additional self-catering rooms in the aparthotel.
