Council members vote in favour of casino plan despite objections from public.
Controversial plans for a new casino development in central Milton Keynes have been given the go-ahead by the local authority. The development control committee of Milton Keynes Council approved the application from Xscape by single vote, despite objections from a protest group of local residents.
Xscape was forced to revamp its proposal earlier this year due to concerns over the height of the development, which will include new shops, restaurants and a hotel as well as the gambling venue.
"Our plan is innovative, exciting, well-constructed and good news for the city and the people of Milton Keynes," Xscape spokesperson Andrew Russell told mk-news.co.uk.
However, architect Ken Baker has claimed that the main building is poorly designed and will be "a blot on the landscape" if construction goes ahead.
The existing Xscape complex in Milton Keynes contains indoor ski slopes, rock climbing walls, a bowling alley, a cinema and a fitness centre.
