Bingo hall in south Wales is set to shut its doors for the final time later this month.
Residents of Neath in south Wales have reacted with dismay to the news that a local bingo hall is due to close down later this month.Much to the surprise of many members, an employee of the Empire Bingo club revealed during an evening session last week that the venue is set for closure, the South Wales Evening Post reports.
One local bingo player told the newspaper that many members had been left "devastated" by the announcement.
She said: "It's in the centre of town and within walking distance. It's like a home from home for many of them. When the announcement was made there were tears everywhere."
Meanwhile, Neath councillor Mal Gunter also expressed his sadness at the popular bingo club's demise.
"I know people who go there and they are going to be deeply disappointed," he told the publication.
A number of UK bingo clubs, including five venues owned by Gala Bingo, have closed down in recent months as operators struggle to absorb the impact of the recession and recent tax hikes.
