Bingo venue enjoys fundraising success

Gala Bingo venue has raised £1,500 for Sue Ryder Care so far this year.

A south coast bingo venue has raised over £1,500 for Sue Ryder Care this year by holding a series of prize draws and special events.

The Southern Daily Echo reports that players and staff at the Gala Bingo club in Lord's Hill, Southampton have generated £756 for the charity this month alone.

Gala Bingo is working towards its national target of raising £1 million for Sue Ryder Care, which provides support to people with long-term care needs and requires £74 million each year to fund its work.

"We have been getting a lot of support with all our regular players and local businesses who have been providing prizes," Sue Cooper, committee fundraiser at the Southampton bingo venue, told the newspaper.

"The first prize this month was a two person break to Bruges, which is fantastic."

Meanwhile, government officials have been visiting Mecca Bingo halls around the UK as part of a campaign to raise awareness of pension credits among older members of society, the Daily Mail reports.
