Roger Federer is the bookmakers' favourite to triumph at Flushing Meadows.
One sports betting firm has cut its odds on Roger Federer winning the US Open again this year after taking a £75,000 bet on the Swiss tennis star. The wager, which will net the punter £157,500 if Federer emerges victorious in the final Grand Slam of the year, prompted William Hill to reduce its odds from 11/10 to 10/11.
Federer began his US Open campaign with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 victory over young American player Devin Britton on Monday (August 31st).
"Since the draw it has all been about Federer and this bet is one of many for the world number one," said Rupert Adams, spokesperson for William Hill.
The bookmaker has installed Andy Murray as second favourite to win the New York tournament at 11/4, while Rafael Nadal can be backed at 13/2 and Juan Martin del Potro is available at 10/1.
World number one Federer, who overcame Murray in straight sets to win last year's final at Flushing Meadows, has won the US Open for the last five years.
