Victory for UK-based online poker player.

British card sharp takes down online poker championship's pot-limit Omaha event.

A UK player has outgunned all competitors to win an event at the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP.

Coming in the wake of the UK's recent successes at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament, the win came despite the fact that the player was participating in a different time zone.

The poker player, who goes by the online handle MUSTAFABET, won the pot-limit Omaha six-max event after seeing off 2,738 players including Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier and Barry Greenstein.

MUSTAFABET's concentration was required for 14 hours as players tried their hands and fell by the wayside leaving the British player to pick up the first prize of nearly $90,000 (£54,000).

The player also secured his first WCOOP bracelet, having previously put in a strong performance at the 2009 Spring Championship of Online Poker, where he reached the final table.

Brunswick Dave gave MUSTAFABET a run for his money as both players turned over huge heads-up hands in a bid to win the game.

Qualifications for the remaining events are currently ongoing.
