Bingo event generated approximately £2,000 for the Watford Disability Forum.
A special bingo event recently helped people in Watford to generate £1,000 for a local charity. The Hertfordshire town's Mecca Bingo hall hosted the evening, which saw many bingo novices play the game for the first time as part of the fundraising effort, the Watford Observer reports.
Organised by the Watford Disability Forum, the event also featured mayor Dorothy Thornhill putting in a shift as a bingo caller.
"The main thing was letting people in Watford know we are out there and hopefully we will get some more members," the organisation's vice chairman Kim Price told the newspaper.
Peter Peart, manager of the Mecca Bingo venue, added: "It was absolutely fantastic. Bingo is very much a social activity that a lot of people depend on."
Mecca Bingo also used the event as an opportunity to raise money for its nominated charity Whizz-Kidz.
The bingo firm recently helped Whizz-Kidz to launch the Heels for Wheels campaign, which urges people to donate old and unwanted shoes as a way of raising money for young people's mobility equipment.
