Casino operator Genting is set to introduce a new slots parlour in Portsmouth.
The Mint Casino in Portsmouth will close down next month and a new slot machine parlour is set to open nearby as a replacement, it has emerged.According to the Portsmouth News, the casino venue on Guildhall Walk is due to close on November 30th after operator Genting decided that it is "no longer commercially viable in its current format".
Although some employees are expected to lose their jobs as a result of the closure, the firm has claimed that many of its workers will be offered positions at the new slots venue.
"In response to consumer trends, Genting UK plans to replace [the casino] by opening an Electric Circus club on Commercial Road, Portsmouth, to operate as an electronic gaming and slot machine leisure venue," a statement from the firm explained.
The newspaper reports that the Electric Circus venue is expected to open for business in early December, although Genting has not yet submitted any planning documents.
In its current guise, Portsmouth's Mint Casino contains 13 electronic roulette terminals, two blackjack tables and one three-card poker table.
