Joe Cada claimed the world's biggest poker prize

Online poker ace Cada is the youngest player to ever win the WSOP main event.

Joe Cada has become the youngest ever player to win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event after defeating Darvin Moon in Las Vegas on Tuesday (November 10th).

The 21-year-old poker ace from Michigan won $8.5 million (£5 million) and the coveted gold WSOP bracelet following a three-hour heads-up battle with his 46-year-old opponent, who went home with $5.2 million.

"It was one of those dreams and I'm thankful it came true," said the champion, who dropped out of college to take up poker full-time.

The final hand saw Cada go all-in with a pair of nines pre-flop, with Moon holding Qd, Jd.

Although a flop of 8c, 2c, 7s was no use to either player and the turn was a Kh, the final river card was 7c, handing victory to the younger competitor.

Cada made his name in online poker and cashed in two tournaments at this year's WSOP before the main event got underway with 6,494 players in July.

After making it into the 'November Nine' - the nine final-table players who endure a three-month break before heading back to Vegas for the climax of the event - Cada was fifth in the chip count when the action resumed last week.
