Gambling Confined To Casinos In Poland

The Polish government has approved stricter gambling laws

Slot machines in Poland will be banned outside of casinos under the new legislation.

Online gambling portals and slot machine parlours are set to be outlawed under new legislation passed by the Polish government.

An amendment to the country's gaming laws states that only designated casino premises are permitted to host gambling facilities.

This means that thousands of slot machines - currently found in bars, cafes and service stations as well as casinos - will have to be removed, the Krakow Post reports.

Internet gambling will also be forbidden, although the newspaper notes that this part of the bill is likely to be "much more difficult" to enforce.

The amendment has been passed by the Polish parliament and now just requires the final approval of president Lech Kaczynski before it becomes law.

Polish prime minister Donald Tusk moved to tighten the country's gambling regulations following a major scandal last month.

Four government ministers and several senior aides resigned following accusations that casino owners were able to influence future legislation.
