A Malaysian hotel tycoon is looking to acquire the casino licence, according to reports.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes has closed down its casino in west London and plans to sell the licence to Malaysian hotel tycoon Quek Leng Chan, it has emerged.The Ladbrokes Casino & Sport Bar in Paddington, which opened in July 2006, had turned into a loss-making venture for the sports betting firm, the Times reports.
According to the newspaper, Mr Quek hopes to purchase the gambling licence from Ladbrokes and then move it to a new location at the Guoman Hotel in Marble Arch.
The billionaire already owns the Clermont Club, an exclusive Mayfair gambling venue which he acquired for £31 million from Rank Group in 2006.
Owner of the Thistle and Guoman hotel chains, Mr Quek is one of the richest men in Malaysia and his net worth was estimated at $2.9 billion (£1.7 billion) by Forbes in 2007.
Earlier this week, the Evening Standard reported that a rare run of big wins by high-rolling punters contributed to the recent closure of Fifty, the fashionable Mayfair casino owned by London Clubs International.
