Defoe is the bookmakers' favourite to be this season's top goalscorer in the Premier League.
Bookmakers have created several special betting markets in the wake of Jermain Defoe's five-goal salvo against Wigan Athletic on Sunday (November 22nd).The Tottenham Hotspur striker was in rampant form as his side destroyed Roberto Martinez's team 9-1 at White Hart Lane, becoming the first player to score five times in a Premier League match since Alan Shearer in 1999.
With 11 league goals so far this term, Defoe is now William Hill's 11/4 favourite to finish as top scorer.
Meanwhile, the sports betting firm is also offering 66/1 on any player going one better than the Spurs star and scoring six goals in a single Premier League game this season.
William Hill also makes it 40/1 that a top-flight side will find the net ten or more times before the end of the 2009-10 campaign.
Manchester United's 9-0 demolition of Ipswich Town in March 1995, when Andrew Cole scored five, remains the biggest Premier League victory on record.
