Bookmaker Announces Odds For Sports Personality Awards

The online bookmaker William Hill has cut the odds on Ryan Giggs taking the award.

Bookmaker William Hill has listed Ryan Giggs as third favourite to take the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award following the biggest ever gamble on the event.

The broadcaster unveiled its shortlist for the ceremony and ten men and women from across nine sports are in the running for the honour.

The Manchester United star had initially been backed at the bookmaker at 100/1 his odds then dropped to 20/1 once the final list was unveiled.

Prices have now been updated for the contenders, with Giggs being listed as third favourite at 5/1.

Commenting on the news, William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "I've never seen a contender's odds slashed like this before."

Jenson Button is the favourite to win and is offered at odds of 4/6. Jessica Ennis is second favourite and the bookmaker is offering odds of 4/1 for the heptathlete to win the public vote.
