Cold weather has prompted UK punters to place bets on a white Christmas with bookmakers.
Sports betting firm William Hill has responded to a sudden series of wagers by slashing its odds on a white Christmas this year. The operator cut its price on a snowy yuletide in London from 8/1 to 6/1 yesterday (December 1st) after the cold weather inspired British punters to place white Christmas bets.
Spokesperson Rupert Adams said that the bookmaker will be facing a five-figure payout if snow falls on Christmas day.
"If the chill continues then we predict that a Christmas flake of snow on Buckingham Palace will cost us hundreds of thousands of pounds," he commented.
Aberdeen is currently the shortest-priced city for a white Christmas at 3/1, while Glasgow is a 9/2 bet, Belfast is priced at 5/1 and Manchester is available at 7/1.
Following the wettest November on record, the Met Office said that temperatures reached a low of minus 8.9 degrees C in parts of Aberdeenshire on Monday night (November 30th).
