One online bookmaker has made an early prediction for next year's event
One online bookmaker is offering odds of 4/1 on Andy Murray taking home the title of Sports Personality of the Year in 2010.In a statement, William Hill said that the tennis player is currently in the lead.
Other contenders for the crown of 2010's top sports personality include Wayne Rooney and Lewis Hamilton at 6/1, David Beckham at 10/1 and Jenson Button - who missed out on taking home the trophy at this year's event - also at 10/1.
Beckham's former team-mate Ryan Giggs was named 2009's Sports Personality of the Year at a ceremony over the weekend.
Football is likely to play a big part in the 2010 edition of the award given the huge impact the World Cup in South Africa will probably have on the nation, noted Graham Sharpe, a spokesperson for William Hill.
"If England even go close to winning the World Cup, it will almost certainly be a footballer who wins the award next year," he stated.
