Sports betting fans provided with latest Rio for captain odds.
Bookmakers has revealed the latest odds on the likelihood of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand being England captain at this summer's World Cup.Ferdinand was unveiled as captain following John Terry's widespread media attention due to off-the-field issues relating to allegations that he had cheated on his wife with former Chelsea teammate Wayne Bridge's ex-partner.
However, the United defender is set to miss Sunday's (February 28th) Carling Cup final against Aston Villa due to injury and is now offered at 1/6 to be England skipper in their opening game of the 2010 World Cup against the USA.
Steven Gerrard is rated as 9/2 second favourite for the armband.
"Given his persistent problems it is a brave punter who would risk backing Rio to start the first World Cup game as captain," said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
He added that despite his ongoing injury issues, Capello has suggested that Ferdinand will be captain but has yet to confirm it officially.
