Rooney injury sees bookmakers lengthen odds for England.
Bookmakers William Hill has lengthened the odds on England winning this summer's World Cup in South Africa to 6/1 from 5/1.The move follows Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's injury while playing for his club in a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich last night (March 30th).
It is not yet clear how badly Rooney was injured but the sight of the player hobbling off may have concerned those who are backing the Three Lions to win the trophy.
"If there is the slightest chance of Rooney being absent it definitely affects England's chances in the minds of punters," said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
The Red Devils could also be concerned about his fitness with a crucial Premier League tie against Chelsea this Saturday and the second leg of the Champions League quarter final next Wednesday.
Chelsea's odds of success at Old Trafford have been cut from 21/10 to 7/4 and United have lengthened to 13/8 from 7/5.
