Poker could be boosted by video gambling machines.
A new gambling law could allow for truck stops in the US state of Illinois to legally host paying video gambling machines.Video gambling is already legal in bars and restaurants in the state and the official start of video gambling in such establishments is expected to be given by the Illinois Gaming Board later this year.
Until last year, gambling on the machines for cash was illegal but as part of the new plans only those with a felony conviction on gambling charges will be denied a licence.
The move follows the recent announcement that San Diego's Barona Casino is set to remove the need for the use of poker chips.
Approval has been granted to plans that will see touchscreen computers replace the traditional colourful chips in a move that it believes will soon be copied around the world.
Poker fans that would prefer to play the game in the comfort of their own home could give online poker a go, or try their hand at one of the other online casino games 888 offers.
