HMRC has reminded operators of gambling laws.
The Gambling Commission has told betting firms that gaming machines must be licensed by official regulators such as itself.According to the organisation, there are still a number of businesses who are unaware of the rules regarding the production and supply of slot machines, leaving some gambling services with illegal equipment.
It claimed that the Gambling Commission is working with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in order to tackle the problem of unscrupulous suppliers that can exploit this unawareness of the law.
Martin McDonnell, spokesman for the HMRC, added: "There are many business owners who are genuinely unaware that it is not just as simple as buying a gaming machine and setting it up."
The Gambling Commission upholds the Gambling Act 2005 and also regulates the operators of betting, bingo, casinos, gambling software and lotteries in the UK, as well as British-based remote services abroad.
