Sports betting fans may be placing a wager on this week's Open championship at St Andrews.

Sports betting fans may have noted Tiger Woods's decision to change his putter ahead of this week's Open championship.

The golfer is to ditch the club with which he won 13 of his 14 majors in favour of having a new, faster item in his bag.

It is his response to a poor year on the greens, which has led caddie Steve Williams to label Woods's putting "substandard".

But that does not appear to have put off bookmakers such as 888sport.com, which still rates the American as the 11/2 favourite to walk away with the claret jug at the end of the weekend.

Other contenders include Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy who is 15/1, Ernie Els at 18/1 and Lee Westwood, who has odds of 21/1.

The Open is to be played at Scotland's St Andrews course, dubbed by many the home of golf, where Woods has won twice in the past.
