John Juanda is the latest WSOP champion.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has described a tournament won by John Juanda over the weekend as "epic".

Juanda overcame the challenge of crowd favourite Phil Hellmuth to triumph in the No-Limit Draw Deuce-to-Seven Lowball World Championship.

He won $367,170 (£224,075) for his success and picked up a prestigious WSOP gold bracelet, in the process denying Hellmuth his 12th piece of poker-related jewellery.

But the facts tell only half the story, as the pair came together to produce a scintillating match that was in the balance until the very end.

Some 16 of the 58 poker tournaments due to be contested at the World Series have now been completed, with plenty more action to come.

The good news for bosses is that the number of competitors is comfortably ahead of last year's event.

It is now more than two weeks since the regular WSOP season ended with the National Championship in Las Vegas.
