The 42nd annual WSOP will run for seven weeks.
A World Series of Poker (WSOP) event has been described by the body as the "biggest, greatest, grandest, most spectacular" attraction in the game's calendar.The Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is hosting the 42nd WSOP, which got underway yesterday (May 31st).
It features some 58 poker tournaments and was opened in typically dramatic style.
Tournament director Jack Effel took to the stage to lead a chorus of Shuffle Up and Deal – a tune that has become synonymous with the beginning of WSOP events.
The Casino Employees Championship was the first competition on the schedule, which is set to see games take place over a seven-week stay at the venue.
WSOP suggested that poker players from around the world hold the event in high esteem and are sure to travel to take part in it.
Last week, WSOP held its National Championship in Las Vegas, which was won by star player Sam Barnhart.
