European politicians will vote on online gambling this year.
A vote on the issue of cross-border online gambling will be held in October, if one member of the European Parliament (MEP) has his way.Jurgen Creutzmann explained that getting around certain regulations by betting with websites from another nation is a problem in the continent.
He highlighted the tenth month of the year as key to his aim of creating new legislation, as a poll of MEPs will be held to determine their stance.
"[If we win], we can say to the European commission that we, your parliament, would like that you do something and this would be a big step forward," Mr Creutzmann stated.
One of his suggestions is for a centralised registration system for all online gambling to be set up and used by people across Europe.
The German online gambling sector is also facing the threat of rising taxes, which Lorien Pilling, research director at Global Betting and Gaming Consultants, recently said would be a disaster for the industry.
