There are numerous factors driving the rising popularity of online gambling among the female population, an expert has suggested.Oliver Mann, the resident internet expert for BBC 5 Live's Saturday and BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright In The Afternoon, observed that online gambling is more attractive to women than walking into the "slightly intimidating atmosphere" of a betting shop.
"So you've got a massive market suddenly because it's appealing to both genders and you see that particularly with bingo," he commented.
"I think the way that the online bingo companies have really [appealed to] stay-at-home mums and grandmas is something that was probably completely unexpected for the likes of Ladbrokes and William Hill ten years ago."
Meanwhile, 888 Holdings, the online gaming group, confirmed recently that it has seen strong trading across all its business lines, recording an overall rise in revenue of 18 per cent.
The group also announced that real money registered customer accounts for casino, poker and sport was up 21 per cent to 9.6 million.
