Following the example set in the UK, the Irish government appears ready to tighten controls on the use of credit cards in the gaming industry, online poker players may be interested to learn.The Irish government is set to force operators to conduct 'due diligence' on gamers in the gap between when they get their registration and when they get permission to begin gambling.
In the UK, meanwhile, the government has moved to bring online gaming into line with the country's land-based venues by outlawing the use of credit cards.
Under the proposals put forward in Ireland, players will be required to provide online confirmation of their age and identity.
Added to this, legislation expected to be introduced next year will see restrictions introduced to ban advertising that portrays online gaming as glamorous or fashionable.
Elsewhere, in Europe, the likes of Sweden and France have recently introduced new regulations to make online gaming more secure.
