UK poker star cashes in Vegas in tournament

UK poker star Sam Holden is celebrating a successful tournament in Las Vegas after the World Series of Poker (WSOP) handed out the prize money for its recent Main Event.

Holden was part of this year's November Nine, which saw him in with a chance of winning the coveted bracelet.

However, he ultimately failed to overcome his rivals and ended up finishing in ninth place.

This position will be seen as something of a success for the Brit however, after he walked away from the felt with prize money of $782,115.

Pius Heinz was crowned as the eventual winner and scooped a whopping £8,715,638 for his trouble, while Martin Staszko and Ben Lamb completed the top three.

Matt Giannetti, Phil Collins, Eoghan O'Dea, Badih Bounahra and Anton Makiievskyi rounded out the November Nine.

Earlier this year, Holden took first place at the UK and Ireland Poker Tour in Newcastle, walking away with a winner's cheque for £3,550.
