Report Reveals Importance Of US Gambling Industry

New data has shed some light on the impressive contribution the casino industry makes to the US economy, online poker players and other gamers may be interested to learn.

The report, entitled Beyond the Casino Floor: Economic Impacts of the Commercial Casino Industry, shows that the country's casino industry generated economic activity equivalent to one per cent of the US' $14.5 trillion gross domestic product in 2010.

Published by the American Gaming Association, the report revealed that the industry supported around $125 billion in spending and nearly 820,000 jobs in 2010.

"There is no doubt the commercial casino industry is a significant and vital part of our nation’s economy," commented Frank Fahrenkopf, president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association.

"The industry generates and supports economic activity that stretches far beyond the communities that host casinos and into the greater American economy."

In the UK, meanwhile, some campaign groups have called on the government to ease gambling regulations to help generate more revenue for the Treasury through taxation.
